Butterfly Quilt – The Beginning

posted in sewing |

I purchased this quilt as a kit, so I am limited on fabric and therefore need to be very careful in my cutting and sewing.

I began by successfully cutting all of the fabric into appropriate squares and rectangles. The first step in sewing was to create the upper wings of the butterfly. This was accomplished by sewing small squares to the upper inside corners of the larger colorful rectangles. The squares were then trimmed off and pressed.

I can’t wait to see how that turns into a butterfly!

It’s very nice fabric! I also sometimes buy kits to make some of my things with plastic canvas, and I always try to be very careful cutting it out, and the amount of yarn I use. I try to use as much of the strand of yarn as I can because I’m always afraid I’ll run out.

Well, it might be a while since I screwed up the lower tails of the butterflies! LOL

Brenda – I was so very careful cutting out this fabric, I didn’t make a single mistake, surprisingly! My mistake came later, when I was sewing the pieces together and trimming excess fabric. I’ll be showing that mistake soon!
