House Painting

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Glidden. All opinions are 100% mine.

We purchased our home about 3 years ago and one of the things I like most about the house was the interior colors and it’s openness with a ton of windows for light. Unfortunately, the thing I didn’t see at first look, was all the damage to the walls that was hidden underneath pictures, decorations and strategically placed furniture. During the walk through, on the day of closing, the house was empty and I could see all the holes in the drywall and damage to the paint. It was awful and a bit overwhelming.

3 years ago, I started room by room, pulling nails, repairing walls, and painting. When I paint, I am typically working on my own because my husband detests painting and, at the time, my daughter was too young to help. I’ve always found it important to choose not only the right color, but the right paint. A cheap paint just makes me have to work harder, painting on extra coats, something I had to do. I prefer one coat coverage and move on to the next room!

While at Home Depot purchasing paint supplies, I discovered the Glidden Ready-to-Go Paint Testers. These are small jars of paint in Glidden’s 10 most popular color categories. They’re inexpensive and come with their own brush built inside the lid. It’s so easy to come home, paint a small test area, let it dry and decide if it’s the right color before investing all the money into gallons of paint. Glidden also makes extra large paint chips which I find very helpful. My eyes aren’t getting any better and it’s so hard to make a decision off of a 1 inch square little piece of paint! Plus, the extra large Glidden paint chips even have 2 coordinating color options right on the back to make choosing accent colors even easier.

I also enjoy using the Glidden Room Painter at www.Glidden.com which allows color comparisons and style sharing. I’m getting ready to start painting our upstairs tv room next and it’s a huge room with a lot of potential. I’ve been wavering about color choice and using the Room Painter has been a big help. As soon as I make my final choice, I’m heading to Home Depot to buy my paint!

Softball

June Jam 2010 Softball

I am so proud of my daughter!

Yesterday my daughter played in a softball tournament. This isn’t unusual, but the temperatures were in the high 90’s with high humidity, it was a tough day to play. Add to that the fact she was running a fever of 101 as a result of having had 3 vaccinations this week, I give her a giant pat on the back and a huge hug! They played a total of 7 games during the day and took 2nd place.

She played right field the entire day and made some incredible plays. In one game she caught a pop fly and then quickly threw it hard to 2nd base to get the runner ending the inning with a double play. In another game, a ball was hit towards center, but knowing that the centerfielder tends to not run up on balls to catch them, she headed that direction running as fast as she could, and made a diving catch, looking like a pro! The centerfielder even thanked her for covering and told her she wouldn’t have made the catch.

I could go on and on, but i won’t. I will just say how very proud I am of her and the team and share a photo I took of her last night after she received her 2nd place trophy.

Playing in the Heat

Just a quick post, I’m going to spend most of today recovering from yesterday!

We spent the entire day yesterday sitting in the heat, watching my daughter’s softball team play in a tournament. It was somewhere in the upper 90’s and quite a bit of humidity. The whole day turned out to be worth it in the end though because the team wound up playing very well, after getting off to a slow start, and took 2nd place in the tournament, losing to a very good team.

We all had fun, but it was exhausting and the heat takes a lot out of me, and I wasn’t even playing! I also managed to get sunburned, so will be tending to my skin today too.

Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday and I will be posting photos later in the week! :-d

Feeding Teenagers

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of Freschetta. All opinions are 100% mine.

Summer has begun and now that our daughter is a teenager, there are more friends coming by, sometimes unannounced, and they tend to hang out around our house. I’m glad that our daughter feels comfortable having her friends over and it’s nice knowing where she is and that she’s safe, but do you have any idea how much food teenagers can eat?! And, if they spend the day swimming in our pool, double or even triple the amount of food they want because we all know that swimming make a person hungry!

This past Sunday is a prime example of how hungry teens can be. A group of 4 spent the afternoon playing around in our pool and came out of the water acting as if they hadn’t eaten in days. It was fortunate that I had a watermelon and some other fruit on hand and I began slicing and dicing and filling bowls with fruit as quickly as possible. My husband quickly returned from the grocery store baring 2 yummy (and filling) Freschetta FlatBread pizzas. The first was the Zesty Italian which he tossed in the oven and immediately served to the four hungry kids who ate it so fast, I’m not sure they even tasted how delicious it was. It came loaded with pepperoni, sausage, Genoa salami, mozzarella and asiago cheeses and I was hoping to get at least one slice, but they didn’t even leave me a crumb.

The second Freschetta FlatBread was the roasted garlic and spinach. Thankfully, the kids were off on their next adventure and so my husband and I were left to enjoy this one all on our own while we quietly watched a movie.

Next time I’m at the store I’ll be using my $1 off coupon to try the 5-cheese masterpiece! (I might have to keep that one for myself). Get your own $1 off coupon by clicking: Freschetta FlatBread
