Buying Generic

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of PBM Products. All opinions are 100% mine.

This month and next are both turning out to be expensive months for us, hitting our budget hard. In just 3 short weeks I will have to write a check for almost $300 to cover my daughter’s marching band expenses for the upcoming school year. Add buying back to school clothes to that and my bank account is getting hit pretty hard. I have to work more hours while also thinking of other areas of our budget that we can save in. One big area is in groceries. Obviously we still have to eat, but there are ways to save money on groceries including using coupons, shopping sales and even buying generic products over name brand.

WalletPop recently published an article titled, 10 Products to Always Buy Generic that I found very interesting. I’m also happy to say that I all ready do purchase many of the generic items on their list, like batteries, pantry staples, soda (pop), and even gasoline. There can be big cost savings associated with purchasing generic products and, for the most part, I find the generic products to be equal to their name brand counter parts. If you are the parent of an infant, you might want to know that even store brand formula is a recommended generic product.  I know we all want the very best for our babies, but “according to the Food and Drug Administration [FDA], all formula marketed in the U.S. must meet the same nutrient specifications, which are set at levels to fulfill the needs of infants. Although infant-formula manufacturers may have their own proprietary formulations, brand-name and store brand formula must contain at least the minimum levels of all nutrients specified in FDA regulations, without exceeding maximum levels, where those are specified.” (storebrandformula.com). So, you can save money and still feel confident that your baby is getting the best.

So, I’m back to working on my budget. What do you do to save money?

We used Parent’s Choice for our twins… I couldn’t believe how much money we saved in the time that we spent formula feeding. Nearly $1400! I have told so many people about the Parent’s Choice formula finder and savings calculator that is on their website (http://parentschoiceformula.com), and they have found it to be really helpful! I know that a lot of parents are concerned that if they don’t spend the higher price, they won’t be giving their little one the proper nutrition. Something I learned in my research before choosing Parent’s Choice, was that the FDA regulates the infant formula manufacturers, so all formulas are nutritionally equal. Why pay the higher price? We loved Parent’s Choice, and my girls did very well with it.
