Not So Wordless Wednesday – Allen HS Band

BandContestOct10

If we’re not attending softball, we’re out watching the largest marching band in the country. This is the Allen High School Escadrille, which includes the band and the color guard, a total of over 650 students. It really is an amazing site to see. This photo was taken a week and a half ago at their first marching contest of the season. They received a ranking of 1 and took 4th place overall. The drumline received the Outstanding Drumline award.

The area contest is this Saturday. It is the first contest on their route to the state competition. They have to receive a ranking of 1 in order to move on to the next contest, so let’s keep our fingers crossed!

Where Have I Been?!

I can’t believe I haven’t posted anything here in a week! Where the heck have I been? Seriously! I’d really like to know!

My previous post states I had spent yet another weekend at a softball tournament where my daughter’s team came in 1st place. Since arriving home from that tournament last Sunday night, everything else seems to be a blur. I’d say I must’ve been in an alcohol induced state, but I really haven’t even had time to enjoy a single drink!

I recall having last Monday off from work and thought I would spend time trying to catch up on email, housework, yard work, etc. I do know that none of that happened. I remember spending a large chunk of my day running around town trying to find a red hoodie sweatshirt for my daughter. It had to be plain because I needed to have her softball numbers ironed on to the back of it. I didn’t seem to have much time because I also had to pick her up from school, rush home to feed her dinner and then get her back to the school for her Monday night band rehearsal. I eventually found 1 (yes, there was truly ONLY 1) red hoodie and it was a child size XL. I snatched it and ran to the nearest cash register praying it would fit my daughter. I still think it would’ve been okay, but when I took it to the local sportswear shop to have the numbers ironed on, they wound up having a much better quality shirt in my daughter’s size, so I bought that one. The first one is still in the back seat of my car waiting to be returned. If I hadn’t been in such a hurry (she needed it for the next softball tournament which we completed yesterday), I probably would have been able to utilize the services of Cafepress custom t-shirts and saved myself a ton of gas money and time!

I do recall working Tuesday- Friday and it seems that every afternoon and evening,we had something going on. I would pick my daughter up from school, rush home for a quick meal and then head out to whatever was on the calendar. It seems to alternate between band and softball obligations, but between the two, I seriously have to wonder when my daughter managed to get any homework done! I just pray she didn’t neglect her school work the way I’ve neglected this blog or my house! I can’t even remember the last time I’ve looked at the mail, I hope I haven’t forgotten to pay any bills!

It was Homecoming week in our town which added to the calendar in a HUGE way. While I would’ve loved to have spent time looking at film posters with my husband, a huge movie buff, we instead spent our evenings sitting at softball games and football games. My daughter plays JV softball for the high school and they play double headers on Wednesday nights. Thursday we spent the evening watching the freshman football teams (there are 2) play, and of course, Friday was the BIG Varsity high school game and it was Homecoming, so we just had to go to that. Not to mention my daughter plays in the band, so she had to be there anyway!

We got home around 11:30 Friday night and had to get up about 6 on Saturday to load the van and head off for another weekend of softball. Honestly, my daughter’s head wasn’t in it on Saturday and she wound up getting benched one game that afternoon. We had a bit of a heart to heart the next morning on the drive back to the fields. I basically told her that if she doesn’t want to sit in the dugout, she needs to work her butt off every game to show the coach she deserves to play. Well, she did exactly that, and the coach did notice! He played her every game yesterday and she did a great job, nice to see the turn-a-round!

My husband wimped out on us yesterday and stayed home. He said he was going to do the yard work, but I’m not really too sure what he actually did. Besides watching football, I have a feeling he spent time checking out IMDB, The Internet Movie Database. You see, he grew up watching movies with his Dad and he still loves all of those old movies. He has a collection of DVD’s, but some of the old classics are hard to find and the internet can be a really big help.

Well, I have spent today off whittling down my email inbox, doing laundry, and running my daughter and her friend around town. No school today because of Columbus day. I still have a HUGE stack of mail to get through so I guess I best get to it. I’m sure hoping I don’t find anything to critical in that 6 inch stack of papers!

Get Up & Move – With Playstation!

This is a Sponsored Post written by me on behalf of PlayStation MOVE. All opinions are 100% mine.

I am so addicted to my computer that I really have been feeling like a total couch potato lately! If I’m working, I’m on the computer. I’ve I’m not working, I’m on the computer. I have to force myself to stay away and go do something else, it’s really quite pathetic! I think Playstation might just be able to help me out with my potatoish problem.

PlayStation®Move uses your movements and motion to help you control the video game. It’s available for use with the PlayStation®3 system and utilizes the hand held controller to capture your motions. There are all ready a number of games available to use with the new PlayStation®Move system, but the one I’d want first is called “Sports Champions” and has a variety of competitive sporting events to choose from like archery and beach volleyball. My daughter loves these types of games too, so we can challenge each other, although she usually creams me! Win or lose, at least I’d be moving, getting some exercise and raising my heart rate.

If you all ready own a PlayStation®3 you can get the Move bundle for only $99. For that price, it’s possible I could soon become addicted to something other than my computer!
