Ginormous Mum

I suddenly remembered that I don’t think I ever posted a picture of my daughter’s homecoming mum that her boyfriend gave her! This thing was absolutely GINORMOUS! Of course, I guess that’s not uncommon when you live in Texas!

Keep in mind, this is an “average” size homecoming mum. We truly saw some girls wearing mums that were double the size of this one! I had to attach this thing to a lanyard around my daughter’s neck just so she could wear it. And, yes, they do wear them. She wore it school for a day and to the freshman football game (her boyfriend plays on that team). Then, she also wore it to the Varsity game while she was in her band marching uniform. That was quite a sight! The ribbons were so long that she did step on it a couple of times.

Without further ado, here it is in all its glory!

Halloween 2010 017

We are off tonight to the first varsity playoff game of the season.  Hopefully we won’t get drenched during a thunderstorm as they are predicted.  We will be gone both Saturday & Sunday to a softball tournament, so really, a HUGE part of me is praying that we get drenched tonight.  Or maybe, the rain could be so kind as to hold off until after the game and rain enough that the softball fields are too wet to play.  Honestly, I just got back from the Quilt Festival and want to SEW!!

Taking Time For Myself

This post brought to you by Carmex®. All opinions are 100% mine.

I feel like I’ve been running around like a chicken with my head cut off.  I actually took a week and a half off from work, but was busy visiting with family and attending the International Quilt Festival, so my off time was filled up with fun activities too!  Got home late Sunday night, family left Monday morning and I’ve had the last 2 days off from work trying to get myself in order, catching up on everyday things that have been previously set aside.  One of the most important things I tend to set aside is simply taking time to take care of myself.  I’m always so busy making sure the house is taken care of, my daughter and husband are taken care of, my bills are taken care of.  Well, you get the picture.  It’s so easy to not take even a few minutes to take care of me.

Well, a few weeks ago I received a package in the mail to help me take care of myself.  The package included a tube of Carmex® Healing Lotion and Carmex® Healing Cream as well as a purse tube of lotion, all free samples from Carmex.

Carmex

I have to tell you that I am extremely picky when it comes to lotions that I use on my body.  I refuse to use anything that feels greasy and these do not.  I also prefer to use unscented lotions, mainly due to my allergies, but these have a very mild scent that reminds me of cocoa butter.  It’s so faint that I really don’t notice it.  They feel wonderfully clean too, no greasy residue.  I feel immediate relief after applying the lotion or cream.

I’ve been using the Healing Cream on my feet, in particular, my heels.  My heels are very dry and have a tendency to have the skin crack.  They can actually be painful.  The Healing Cream has really, truly helped.  I do feel relief almost as soon as I apply it and the dryness has definitely improved in the couple of weeks I’ve been using the product.  I have used the Healing Lotion as an all over body lotion, applying it to my arms and legs after showering.  It goes on smoothly and I actually enjoy the light scent.  It has aloe and vitamin E that work to heal dry, flaky skin like I get in the winter.  I’ve put the small size lotion in my purse because I always need lotion on my hands after using soap in public bathrooms.  Those cheap soaps tend to dry out my skin and applying the lotion has really helped.

I have been very pleasantly pleased with the Carmex® Skin Care and do recommend you try it for yourself.  The products are available at Walgreens for just $5.99 each.

I’m Back!

I am back, sorry to have been neglectful of my postings!  I had family come into town last week and they just left to return home yesterday.  I have photos, but am becoming frustrated because I can’t seem to get them from my digital camera onto my computer.  I’ve spent the last couple of hours downloading software and trying to transfer images to no avail.  ugh!

So let me just say, during the past week I had so much fun visiting with my 2 sisters, their husbands, and my mom.  We females also spent 4 days in Houston at the International Quilt Festival and had a blast!  I have several new projects to work on (one of which I’ve all ready cut out and am ready to begin sewing), and we even took a class on free motion quilting.  Now I feel a bit more comfortable about finishing some of my projects!

So, as soon as I can figure out how to get my pictures onto my computer, I will upload them and share.  Stay tuned!

For now, to alleviate my frustration, I’m going to go sew!  :-D
