We were on the road New Year’s Eve, so we enjoyed a celebratory dinner the next evening, January 1. We dined at The Skies restaurant located on the 42nd floor of the Hyatt hotel in downtown Kansas City. The restaurant itself is circular and revolves a full 360 degrees which allowed us to see the entire Kansas City skyline over the course of our meal. It was a very enjoyable evening!

New Year’s Eve
Contributed by Alec Bates
For new year’s eve I like to visit my brother’s vineyard in Napa Valley and enjoy some fine wine and cheeses while we ring in the new year. My brother and I have this little thing where his family comes to visit mine on Thanksgiving and we head over to his place during the new year. We usually pack on the morning of New Year’s Eve, set the adt home security and make the seven hour drive up to my brother’s ranch.
By the time we get there, we’re all famished. My brother’s wife makes it a point to have dinner ready just as we arrive. A few hours later she and I have an assortment of fondues ready to pair with the other cheeses along with some wafers and some of my brother’s wine. My husband can’t really hold his liquor so he usually only tastes the wine, but the rest of us down as much of the stuff as we can. We usually watch one of the standard New Year Eve festivities on television, but there are times when we forgo the television set to partake in a marathon of movies. The last few times we even managed to play a game of charades. This year will be another first as my daughter got married this summer and will be bringing her husband for the first time.
