Grammy Signature Gold School

Grammy Signature Gold School

I’m very proud to say that my daughter is a member of the Allen High School band. They are amazing to watch during marching season, over the course of 3 days this week, 6 of the 10 or so concert bands have been participating in regional contests. The top freshman band performed today and got a Sweepstakes award for scoring a 1 in every single category. They sounded fantastic!

The following was published today on the high school website and I find myself feeling nothing but pride. :-)

Allen High School Named GRAMMY Signature School

Allen High School is one of seven schools nationwide selected as a GRAMMY® Signature School Gold for 2011 by the GRAMMY Foundation.

Created in 1998, the GRAMMY Signature Schools program recognizes top U.S. public high schools that are making an outstanding commitment to music education during an academic school year. The award also comes with a grant of $5,500 for the school’s music programs.

“The GRAMMY Signature Schools program exemplifies the GRAMMY Foundation’s commitment to fostering excellence in music education in public high schools,” said Neil Portnow, President/CEO of The Recording Academy® and the GRAMMY Foundation. “With the generous support of our partners, we’ve been able to grant the largest number of GRAMMY Signature Schools awards in recent history, with 36 public high schools in communities across the United States receiving this recognition. “

A total of 36 GRAMMY Signature Schools will receive a custom award and a monetary grant to benefit its music program. The top seven schools are designated Gold recipients.

GRAMMY Signature Schools are made possible in part through the support of Best Buy, Campbell’s Labels For Education program, the Ford Motor Company Fund, Gibson Foundation, and the Hot Topic Foundation.

Hi Neighbor. So neat to find a fellow blogger so close. I am in McKinney, just down the road. Just found your blog when I was looking for fabric bin patterns.

Congratulations!! Band has been my favorite thing that my kids have belonged to. We also have a very successful (but small) band, and it is a pleasure to be part of it. I can’t wait for marching season to begin here!!

Martha – It’s great to see a neighbor who also blogs! Sometimes I feel as if I am loner in this massive blogging world because none of my friends do this! I have a pattern I downloaded off the web a few years ago for fabric storage baskets/bins, but I see the link is no longer active. You might find something similar at http://www.sew4home.com
Thanks so much for stopping by! :-)

lin – it really is awesome to watch our kids marching, isn’t it?! I am also looking forward to the Fall marching season. This year, while the band itself will be even larger with over 600 kids (it grows every year), it will also be the 1st year that they won’t include the Freshman in the contest marches. The directors are hoping this allows the band to be more successful at competitions by allowing them a bit more room to maneuver on the field. The Freshman will still get to march at the football games and a few local performances. :-)
