Estate Sale

Estate Sale

My daughter & I ran out yesterday to get some lunch and on our way home, I noticed a sign pointing to an Estate Sale in the neighborhood right next to ours. Curiosity got the better of me, so steered the car toward the sign and we went and checked it out.

There were a wide variety of items for sale, everything from furniture to paintings to clothes and toys, but nothing really caught my eye. The family is being relocated to Austria, so they are eliminating a lot of their household goods and have all ready sold their home. I did notice and old student desk. It was wooden, the type used many years ago with a flip up lid. There was even a hole cute out in the desktop to hold a jar of ink. It was really pretty cool and they were asking $95. Well, it was late in the afternoon and my lunch was out in the car getting cold, so we headed on home. The more I thought about it, the more I wanted that desk, especially when I knew that today, they were marking everything %50 off their asking price.

I had to work this morning until 12, and the sale started at 10. I asked my husband to go and even gave him the cash to buy the desk. Of course, he waited, and didn’t go until around 1 and yes, the desk was sold. I am still very disappointed, but don’t fear, we did get something after all. This is what he came home with…

Finding My Way to Wellness

This is a Sponsored post written by me on behalf of Walgreens for SocialSpark. All opinions are 100% mine.

Luckily, my family rarely gets sick. However, I do have allergies that seemed to wreck havoc with my sinuses ever since moving to Texas. After going through countless medicines to find one that would work for me, I finally asked my Walgreen’s pharmacist what he thought would work the best. After describing my symptoms of itchy, watery eyes and a throat tickle that was driving me crazy, he recommended Walgreen’s Wal-Dryl Allergy Relief Capsules. Advertisement

I think it always helps that my pharmacist lives in the area and has knowledge of what has worked for other people who experience the types of allergies popular in the Dallas area. I feel like I am in on a little secret when I buy the Walgreen’s brand because I save so much money on a product that has the exact same ingredients as the name brand products. Before trying the Walgreens Brand Health & Wellness Products, I was a bit leery of the potency and whether it would be the same as the name brand but all of Walgreen’s health and wellness products carry a 100% satisfaction guarantee so I decided I couldn’t lose! I am so glad I took the pharmacist’s advice and gave Wal-Dryl Allergy Relief a try. It has helped me so much!

It is a good feeling to know that every purchase of Walgreen’s Brand Health & Wellness products that I make helps Walgreens in the Walgreens Way to Well Fund™.

Be sure to check out several of my blogging friends who are having Walgreen’s Gift Card giveaways!

Exhausting Weekend

I can’t believe our long planned weekend to Oklahoma City has now come & gone.  It was fun, hot and exhausting!

We left Friday around 1 in the afternoon and made the 3 1/2 hour drive to Oklahoma City.  We went straight to the tournament check in area which happens to be right next to the ASA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium where the College World Series is taking place.  It was very cool to see, but, unfortunately, by the time we got there, post of the earlier activities had pretty much concluded.  So, we got back in the van and headed for the hotel.  Got ourselves checked in, relaxed for just a little bit, and then headed downstairs for the team meeting.    The hotel was kind enough to have a taco buffet set up for all the teams staying at the hotel and we definitely took advantage!

By the time the meeting was over it was time for bed.  The team had 2 back to back games on Saturday, starting at 8 am.  The fields were just 20 minutes away, but we wanted to make sure we had some breakfast, also provided by the hotel.

The team played a total of 5 games, losing all 5.  There were a lot of issues, mostly caused by a select few of the parents, that caused a lot of distraction and tension for the girls.  It all came to a head when to parent got in a loud argument in the stands at one of the College World Series Games, ridiculous! It was really unfortunate and I do believe it is going to result in at least one of the players being cut from the team today which will also mean that set of parents will no longer be a factor.  That could lead to some additional voluntary departures, but we’ll have to wait & see.  The coach has called a parent meeting for tonight, and I’m hoping that going forward, the drama will no longer be a factor.

We did enjoy ourselves despite all the controversy.  We got to see 2 of the College World Series games on Saturday night, saw some really good softball games at the Triple Crown Sports tournament, and even got to eat dinner at Toby Keith’s I Love This Bar restaurant in Oklahoma City.  The food was great and the company a lot of fun too.

So, it was back to work today, thankfully I had a short shift today.  My daughter is helping out at the high school with the softball camp, so that keeps her morning occupied!

Thank you to all who continued to stop by and visit, even though I wasn’t here.  :-)

A Weekend Away

Wow!  It’s over!  My daughter is no longer a freshman, she is officially a sophomore in high school!

She actually took her last final yesterday and went to school this morning for athletics and band, neither of which had a final exam, a total waste of time!  But that’s it, it’s over and she had a very busy, but successful year and we are very proud of her.

We are leaving in just a bit to head for Oklahoma City where we’ll be spending the next few days.  We will be attending the College World Series (softball of course!) on Saturday night, and my daughter and her team are playing in a HUGE tournament that is centered around the World Series.  We are looking forward to it, although it’s going to be very, very hot!

I more than likely won’t be dropping EC.  My laptop has been out of commission for a while now and I don’t have a backup for when I’m not at home.  So, I apologize to my frequent droppers, but I think it’s healthy to take time away from the computer, so that’s what I’ll be doing.

I hope you all enjoy a wonderful weekend!

Not So Wordless Wednesday – Fun

axe7

This photo was taken by a dad one of of my daughter’s teammates. I really think it shows just how much fun these girls had this weekend playing in a local tournament. The tournament was a fundraiser for the Susan G. Komen foundation for breast cancer which explains why they’re wearing pink!  (that’s my daughter on the far right)

This weekend we are headed up to Oklahoma City for another tournament, hopefully just as much fun. Wish them luck!
