Budget Cuts

Budget Cuts

Are you done with your holiday shopping?  I am.  I have to be.  My budget was cut in half this year and I have no more gift money so I am done.

I actually sat down with my husband tonight and asked him if he would be all right with he and I not exchanging gifts this year.  I think he looked relieved and he agreed that we would skip it.  I could go out and buy him something, but it wouldn’t be what he really wants and I would be wasting the money.  The same is true for him buying a gift for me.  We are just in a number crunch right now and I told him I would rather wait a bit and get him something I know he wants and get it when I can afford it.  I just am trying so very hard to not use credit cards!

Thankfully I was able to order most of my daughter’s gifts online and was able to use Paypal.  It’s like my secret stash of funds.  It’s where all my online earnings go to throughout the year and I really never spend it except at the holidays.  It’s a very nice little fund that puts a smile on my face and has once again made holiday shopping easier on the wallet!

Maybe I need to get back to sewing and selling items, that was certainly another way of getting extra funds!

Shopping For Cell Phones

This post brought to you by LG DoublePlay™. All opinions are 100% mine.

My daughter and I have spent the day online shopping for cell phones.  My husband has a cell phone which is a smart phone, that is issued to him by his employer.  Lately though, he seems to think that he needs to have his own personal cell phone.  Truthfully, I think he sees my daughter and I playing around on our phones all the time and he wishes he could do the same.  He’s hesitant to do more than text or make business calls on his current phone since the monthly bill is paid for through work.  So, we started shopping around.  I think he’s crazy to even consider carrying around 2 phones, but hey, he’s so difficult to gift shop for, if he wants a phone, he might just get one!

One phone we came across that would be perfect for him is the LG DoublePlay™.  It’s perfect for texting because it has a full slide out QWERTY keyboard as well as SWYPE.  The keyboard is larger than the one on his current phone so I think he would find it easier to use and reduced the amount of time it takes him to actually send a text.  He doesn’t text nearly as much as I think he would if he could handle the keyboard better with his stubby little fingers!  Honestly, he probably spend a couple of hours a day total texting right now, but I think that would increase.  The phone is Android based, something we are very used to in our household.

The LG DoublePlay™ which is available exclusively at T-Mobile, has dual screens, the primary screen is 3.5″ and the 2nd screen is 2″.  They can operate independently or simultaneously, a very cool feature that would allow him to surf the web at the same time he is attempting to send a text.  That’s something he can’t do at all right now.  In fact, he rarely visits social networking sites because he can’t do that on his current phone.  I know the time he spends doing that right now would certainly increase!  In addition, the phone as a 5 megapixel camera and takes HD video.  I think he would like the addition of the video feature.

So, what do you think?  Do you spend a lot of time texting or visiting social networks on your cell phone?  Let me know, I’m curious!  Would the LG DoublePlay™ change the way you currently use your cell phone for texting or social networking?

A Day of Rest?

I know, I know, Sunday is supposed to be a day of rest.  Well, what can I say?  I rested so much earlier in the week that I ended up with a lot of work to be done!

So, here’s my list of things I accomplished today:

  • work (yes, I had a 1 1/2 hour shift this morning for my job!)
  • shower (it’s nice working from home so I can shower AFTER I work! LOL)
  • wash my bed sheets
  • clean the dishes
  • clean of the kitchen island (buried under mountains of junk mail, coupons, Christmas presents brought home from work/school, cell phone chargers, etc)
  • scrub down all the counter tops, including the freshly cleared island!
  • vacuum family room
  • do a load of laundry
  • sweep and mop the kitchen and hallway floors
  • make my bed with my freshly cleaned sheets
  • write 2 paid ops

So now it’s just after 5 and I feel a sense of accomplishment.  I now need to go unload the freshly run dishwasher so I can reload it with all the dishes that were a result of my husband cooking dinner while I was doing all of the above!  When I get done with that I plan to spend some time dropping EC and maybe some last minute online holiday shopping.

Hoping everyone had a wonderful weekend!

Free Cell Phone

This post brought to you by Sprint. All opinions are 100% mine.

Do you have your holiday shopping completed?  I sure don’t!  I thought I was doing really well, checking items of the notorious wish lists, but then I got sick.  I don’t even want to leave the house.  Thank goodness for internet shopping, right?!

I think I only have a few gift cards remaining to purchase for my daughter, but my husband is the difficult one to buy for.  Most everything he wants is way out of my budget, and this year, we are trying to really stay within our budgets because we are looking into buying our daughter a car in the next few months.  So, what to buy the man who has everything, even though he thinks he doesn’t?  Android™ powered EVO 4G devices that’s what!

For a very limited time you can get the EVO or EVO shift (my personal favorite) for FREE from Sprint.  Plus, right now, only online, Sprint is offering free activation on new lines of service.  Since this would be a second phone for my husband, his current cell phone is through his job, it would be a new line of service, so we would qualify for the free activation, yahoo!

Sprint has some great rates and great plans to choose from, so I’m going to try to take advantage and check out the Android™ powered EVO 4G devices online today before this offer expires.

Crochet

My mom and sister spent a week visiting me last week and was such a wonderfully relaxing visit. We did go out each day they were here and hit a quilt shop or two, but for the most part, we stayed home and chatted. While we were chatting, our fingers were busy, mine were on the computer or ipad and my mom and sister were busy with their crochet hooks. I lost count of just how many hats they made, but here are just a couple of the kids size.
