Blog About Animals

A blogging friend of mine has started a new blog Forest’s Blog About Animals and I am thrilled that he has chosen to feature my little dog Plinko in the first of his ongoing series about bloggers and their pets.

I hope you’ll go over and take a look. While you’re there, let Forest know what you think of his new site. I personally think it’s going to be a very successful blog. Who doesn’t like to see photos of pets? If you’re a blogger with a pet of your own, leave a comment on his new site if you’re interested in having your pet profiled.

Hunting Dog

Do you see that sweet, innocent looking dog in the above photograph? Well, she’s a killer! A murderer of squirrels!

Last night, a poor little squirrel’s life was ended because it didn’t have the sense to stay on the roof, out of harms way. Instead, it opted to jump down, almost to ground level, right in front of our dog! Now remember, this little dog is have beagle, a true hunter. That squirrel, upon realizing its mistake, attempt to scale the side of our house but couldn’t seem to get a grip on the brick and started to fall. As it was falling, it attempted to jump into the bushes and the dog saw her opportunity and jumped into the bush as well.

In a split second, the squirrel was in Plinko’s mouth and quickly died, only after both dog and squirrel let out horrifying shrieks. The dog, a shriek of pure joy and the squirrel, a shriek of fear I’m sure.

It took us almost 30 minutes to get the squirrel away from the dog. We had to chase her down with brooms and finally startled her so she dropped the dead critter. It was a sad day in squirreldom I’m sure.

Dogs & Cats

I was just reading some of my favorite blogs and I ran across a post that really made me laugh. If you are a dog or cat lover (or even love both), this post is a must read.

Tammie received the post in an email and shared it on her blog, so I hope you will go over and give it a read. If you enjoy humor (and who doesn’t), you will certainly enjoy this one! As I read it on another blog, I am posting the link here and I hope you will go give it a read.

Spoiled Puppy

I was talking about our dog in my previous post and I wanted to share this photo.

I went into my daughter’s room the other morning to make sure she was up and getting ready for school. She was in her closet getting dressed and this dog was very content to still be in bed. She was so comfortable that she stayed where she was while I went to get the camera. I don’t think she’s too spoiled, do you?

Lost Dog

The other day I came home after dropping my daughter off at school and as I pulled in our driveway, there was our puppy, standing there, looking at me as if she were lost. I was stunned to see her. She was so scared that when I opened the car door, she jumped in and I drove on into the garage. I’m so glad I hadn’t decided to run any errands before coming home, who knows where she would’ve gotten off to.

Our entire back yard is fenced, but I discovered that a gate on the fence had been left open. The gate is located off the sideyard and isn’t visible without walking over there which we rarely do. I promptly closed it, but it leaves me concerned that it could happen again. We would be devastated if our dog got lost.

I’ve heard of using vehicle tracking to find lost or stolen vehicles and I discovered that this same technology can be used to track pets. In fact, the PT-200 is designed with a special pouch and pet collar to do exactly that.

To cause me even more concern was the news story last week about how designer dogs and pure breads are being stolen and resold because of their high prices. I think investing in a tracking device is not only the smart thing to do, but it would give me peace of mind.

Wordless Wednesday

Plinko Peaking
The post just before this one shows that I’m more of a cat person than a dog person, that certainly doesn’t mean I don’t like dogs. This little one for example. This is Plinko for those of you who don’t know. She is my daughter’s dog, however, I’m the one that spend days with her while my daughter is at school. The dog tends to keep her eye on me at all times, even when she’s trying to make me think she’s asleep. See that little eyeball peaking at me?!

Wordless Wednesday

relaxation 001, originally uploaded by sewingmom1.

I walked into my daughter’s room over the weekend and discovered her & the dog enjoying a completely relaxing evening together. I’m not sure how long they had been like this, but I gathered it had been quite a while! Plinko, the dog, is happily chewing on one of my daughter’s socks. I, of course, had to ruin the moment by taking the sock away, but only after capturing it on camera.

Plinko Update

puppy-christmas-2007-009.jpg

Our little puggle puppy Plinko is doing so much better today. I was very worried about her when we brought her home last night, she was barely able to stand up. Even though I did manage to get her to go outside twice to use the bathroom before we went to bed and she did drink a little water, but it was her complete lack of energy that had me worried.

I took her to the vet at 8 a.m. yesterday to have her spayed and was told to pick her up after 4. Thankfully, I called before going because at 4:40 I was told she wasn’t ready and to wait at least 20 minutes. We waited until 5:30 to even leave the house and by the time we were handed Plinko, it was 6. She was so completely drugged out that she really was wobbly. We had to give her an additional pain pill at 8 (per instructions) which I’m sure didn’t help her drug induced state.

We had her sleep in her crate last night and it’s a good thing. I do think she slept pretty much through the night, but she did end up doing a little business in her crate that resulted in me washing the crate and bed this morning. When I opened her crate door this morning though, she had so much more energy than she did last night. She was wagging her tail and very happy to see us.

Plinko has spent a good part of today outside, it’s been a gorgeous day, and when she wasn’t cruising the backyard she was sleeping at my feet. I think if we can keep her from chewing on her stitches she’s going to be just fine.

Plinko Has Surgery

Plinko

This was a trying day. This morning I took our puppy Plinko to the vet to have her spayed. I realize this is a very common and necessary procedure, but when it’s just a little puppy it’s hard to leave them for something as major as surgery, no matter what the reason. But I did it.

My daughter & I picked Plinko up about 5:30 this afternoon and that little dog looks so miserable it’s breaking my heart! I know she is completely drugged up and we gave her another dose of her pain medication about an hour ago, but she looks so sad! She’s such a people dog and loves to snuggle up with us. She’s feeling so miserable though she just keeps going back to her crate and crawling in to her bed. We’ve managed to get her outside twice since bringing her home so she could go potty, but that’s it.

I know that rest is really the best thing, so we just keep comforting her and making sure she’s comfortable. That’s the only thing we can do right now. I have enough pain meds to give her for the next 5 days and then her stitches will come out next week. I will certainly be glad when she gets back to feeling like her spunky self. Right now I’m having all sorts of guilty feelings, even though I know it’s something that had to be done. It’s just that how do I tell those soft little brown eyes that it was for her own good, in a way that she can understand?

More Puggle Puppy

blogcopy.JPG
Sorry, I just can’t help myself.  This dog is so photogenic, I really enjoy taking and sharing pictures of her.  This one was taken a couple of days ago with my new HP digital camera.  I’ll talk more about that later, but I think it takes really nice photos.  I’m still figuring out how to download the pictures onto my computer, but this is from the first batch that I completed.

Plinko received a new rawhide chew that was shaped like a candy cane.  She was the happiest little puppy and managed to chew it into oblivion in a matter of a day or two.
