Puggle Puppy

I haven’t posted for a while about our little puggle puppy Plinko so thought I’d show what she got for Christmas.  She had one gift under the tree that was wrapped, it was so much fun watching her with that package.  She also had her very own stocking hanging over the mantel and it had several new toys for her, to her surprise.  Once she got everything out of the wrappers, she created her own little treasure pile and was very content to lay down with her new stash.  Needless to say, she had a very good Christmas!

Dog Training

We got our little dog back in July and she now about 6 months old.  I’ve talked a lot about her here, my little goat, Plinko.  When she was just 12 weeks old we started her (and ourselves) in puppy training.  She actually did very well, she is a very smart dog after all.  She learned all sorts of neat tricks like sit, stay, lay down, the usual.  She learned a few not so usual like play dead and crawl.  One thing she didn’t learn was to pick up after herself.  You know, pick up her own toys, or how about picking up her own business out in the yard like this dog!?

Not the Only Goat in Town

Chewing a Slipper

Plinko, with my daughter’s slipper in her mouth.
I am feeling somewhat better about my little goat Plinko this morning. Although she has continued her eating frenzy over the past few days, I am learning by visiting other blogs, that she is not the only puppy to eat everything in sight.

This morning, in a matter of 10 minutes, she had found (I have no idea where) and chewed a Hershey’s Crunch fabric key chain and a plastic dress for a Barbie doll. The dress had the two sleeves chewed off but I found them on the floor, so at least I know I won’t be having to watch for her to poop them out. We try to so hard to make sure everything is picked up and put away so that she can’t get herself into trouble, and yet, she always seems to have something she’s not supposed to have. How does she do it?

While my mom and sister were here it was crazy. There seemed to be an abundance of used tissues about and Plinko was finding them and shredding them on a regular basis. She also discovered that if the bathroom door was left open she could get things out of the trash. We all know the kinds of things that are in a bathroom trash can, so I won’t bother going into detail. I’m still wondering what that white thing was Plinko swallowed on Monday, I might never know!

This morning I learned of another puppy who very much enjoys eating a variety of paper products. I feel a comradery with Jessica at Around the Hydrant after learning of all the items her puppy has eaten, including styrofoam peanuts. How does she know he ate the peanuts? Well, let’s just say that the puppy pooped peanut shaped pellets! For the full story, please be sure to give her a visit.

Plinko the Goat - Part 2

What goes in must come out; this is a very true statement, and whatever a goat… I mean dog eats, must come out, one way or another.  This is a rather gross post, so if you’re easily disgusted, you may want to skip over this one!

Plinko went out to do her business today while I was doing the dishes in the kitchen.  She came to the back door as she always does and so my mom, who is visiting, opened the door to let her in.  What happened next happened so fast, you have to imagine us flying around the kitchen as if in a time warp!

I noticed right away that Plinko had something hanging off her behind, so, because my hand were in the dish water, I hollered at my mom that I thought it was poop.  Sure enough, it was, a big 4 inch length of poop hanging out of the dog’s butt.   Plinko promptly sat her butt down on the nice new quilt that had fallen of the back of the couch and was about to rub to try to remove it when my mom grabbed hold of her to catch her.  In the mean time, I had dried my hands and grabbed paper towels.

I quick wrapped the paper towels around the hanging turd and began to pull… and pull… and pull.  I felt like a magician who pulls handkerchiefs out of his sleeve, it just kept coming out.  It reached a point that my mom & I were both laughing and now I had tears coming out of my eyes making it difficult to see because I was laughing so hard!  What I wound up slowly pulling out was about a 12 inch shoe string!  It was so disgusting!  But, that wasn’t all, oh no.  There were also a couple of those loops that my daughter uses to make her potholders on those plastic looms.   Unfortunately, I didn’t see the 3 inch plastic needle that my daughter was sewing with last night that disappeared, so that may be tomorrow’s excitement.

Following this episode, Plinko has slept most of the afternoon.  I think the entire ordeal wore her out.  Although, several times we’ve pulled small toys out of her mouth today.  I’m not really sure where she’s finding this stuff, we’ve tried really hard to keep things picked up where she can’t get to them, but obviously there is stuff somewhere that she is finding.

I guess the good news is that at least it came out of her without having to go to the vet to have it removed.  That still amazed me how long it was!  I apologize if I have grossed anyone out, but it was a story I felt had to be told.

My Goat

I’ve been telling you about my goat….er, I mean my dog, Plinko.  This little dog will eat just about anything.  Her favorite thing is mulch, which wouldn’t be bad except for the mess it makes inside the house.  Today she ate her first Christmas tree ornament.  Thankfully she chose a fabric ornament, and I got it away from her before she could swallow any of it.  Yesterday she tried to eat styrofoam that fell out of a carton.  She snatches stuff so fast you can’t catch her.  Then she turns it into a game of chase to get it away from her.  She’s quite clever.

Her eating habits aren’t the only reason we think she’s part goat.  She also loves to climb.  When she was tiny she would climb the landscaping rocks in the backyard.  Of course she likes to climb on furniture and recently figured out that she was capable of jumping onto our beds.  She’s even been known to climb up onto the ledge of the whirlpool tub, that’s quite a trick if you could see that tub!

Her latest feat is to climb onto the patio furniture and then onto the ice chest.  From that vantage point, about 3 feet above the ground, she is able to sit and stare at me through the family room window.  It’s a bit odd to get that feeling you’re being watched, look up, and see her staring at me!

My daughter just informed me that Plinko came to the back door with something in her mouth that she wanted to bring inside.  Fortunately my daughter saw that whatever was in her mouth was still moving, it had legs and antennae.  My husband just informed us that it was the dead mouse, the same dead mouse she had a couple of weeks ago, EEWWW!

Plinko Update

The Christmas tree is up and decorated and Plinko believes we placed the tree skirt around the bottom of the tree so that she would have one more ultra soft spot to take a nap.  She has made the area her own and we just need to place a bow on her and she’d look like a gift under the tree!  There probably won’t be any gifts placed under the tree until Christmas Eve, because I’m afraid that Plinko would chew on them and then eat the wrapping paper, she is part goat after all.  I guess I should appreciate the fact that she hasn’t eaten a single ornament yet and seems to be losing interest in eating the lights on the tree.  :-D

Plinko

Plinko is growing again!  I was laying in bed reading and next thing I know she was up on my bed and decided to lay down at my feet.  That’s the first time she’s ever jumped up on my bed, I didn’t know she was capable!

She layed at my feet until my daughter went to get her to put her in her crate.  Then she jumped up and ran to lay against my back with her head on my pillow.  I think she was hoping my daughter couldn’t see her, it was really very funny.

My daughter took some new pictures of the dog today that I will have to post.  They’re loaded on my other computer though so it will have to wait.  You’ll just have to come back to see!

Plinko

Plinko is getting into the spirit of the holidays, she was attempting to help my daughter decorate the tree this morning.  I’m telling you, everywhere my daughter goes this little dog follows.  My daughter climbed up on the stepstool to hang decorations and Plinko did her best to follow her, it was very funny.  After having her home all week from school, Plinko is going to be so bored when Monday rolls around and we get back on a regular schedule.

Plinko

It has been a couple of months since Plinko last saw the vet. She has grown so much it’s unbelievable. She currently weighs in at 23 pounds and is about 13-14 inches tall. She’s really very strong. One of her favorite games is tug of war and she can really tug! The muscles in her legs are very visible and she just looks so strong. She loves to run and climb, we’ve always said she is part mountain goat! She recently learned that she has the ability to jump up on the furniture and can now even jump onto my daughter’s bed. This used to be where my daughter could store her stuffed animals to keep them away from Plinko, this is true no longer!

Plinko will be turning 6 months old in about a week. I’ve been trying to decide when the best time to have her spayed would be. I did some research with a pet advisor and learned that it should be done just before or 3 months after she has her first season. Well, I have no idea when her first season will be, so I think I’m going with the strategy of anytime after 5 months of age. Probably the biggest risk of having her spayed is that she will gain weight. But, that risk far outweighs the consequence of not having her spayed.

I think I’ll give the vet a call and schedule the appointment.

Puppy Update

plink-nov-18-2007-001.jpg
My daughter weighed Plinko this morning and she’s up to 23 lbs!  Her feet are getting big too, it’s amazing.  She is so solid, very muscular.  She will be six months old the end of this week and I just keep wondering how big she will be when she’s fully mature.  She is extremely strong too, loves to play tug of war!  My daughter like to put a leash on her and have her pull her on her scooter down the street.  I need to get some video of that move!
