Auto Accidents and a Vehicles Diminished Value
It’s been many, many years since I was involved in an auto accident. I had two, neither of which were my fault. The first, a driver ran a red light and plowed into me as I was going through the intersection. The second, a semi-truck, coming the opposite direction, decided to turn left directly in front of me and I wound up driving right into him. I was able to walk away from both with some scratches and bruises. I can’t say the cars I was driving fared as well. The first time, the car was repairable and I went on to drive it for many more years. The second time, the car was totaled, the front end completely destroyed.
What about you, have you ever been involved in an auto accident?
Did you know that even if your car is properly repaired after an accident it’s still not valued as much as it would have been had it not been in an accident? If you go to sell it or trade it in, the value is lower. The difference in the value is called the diminished value. If you are in a car accident, you are entitled to recover the diminished value.
I’m glad I’ve been able to go so many years now without being in an accident. Maybe age has caused me to be calmer behind the wheel!
