There is a contest going on over at
After the Dust Settles and it’s a fun one! It’s an easy one too, leave a comment and you get an entry!
The prize? The cutest little whole melon ceramic piggy bank that you see pictured above. I mean, look at this face, how could you not want this?!
While you’re there, be sure to check out her other ceramic items. She makes them all by hand and, if you’re looking for a gift, I’m sure you’ll find something super cute!

Since moving to Texas a year ago, I’ve been battling sinuses and allergies. It has played havoc on my head and eyes. For the past several years, my eyes have been so dry and since moving here, they’ve only become worse. I can no longer wear my contact lenses and am forced to wear my glasses, something I used to never do in public.
I don’t really like wearing my glasses because I don’t feel I look good in them. I have a small face and it’s difficult to find glasses that compliment. In fact, I wear glasses that are mostly rimless in an attempt to make them less noticeable. Unfortunately, because I also need bifocals, the lenses have to be a little bigger than I would like, so I can’t get them too small.
The other thing I’ve had to stop doing is wearing eye makeup of any kind. My eyes are itchy 100% of the time, so it’s pointless for me to wear makeup on my eyes, I’d simply end up rubbing it off. It frustrates me because I think wearing glasses also makes me look older. Since I am getting closer to the big 5-0, I don’t want anything making me “feel” older!
This morning I entered a Makeover contest that, if I win, I believe would really improve me self-confidence and maybe even allow me to get something done about my dry eyes! I’ve recently spoken to an optometrist who suggested plugs to help maintain what little natural moisture my eyes create. I’m hoping a $10,000 makeover could include such a procedure.
That’s right, this contest is for a $10,000 makeover! The contest is only for women who are over 35. Entry is very easy, fill out the typical name and address form and then write a short, 500 words or less, essay on how a makeover would benefit you. Submit your entry online and you can even include a photograph of yourself if you would like.
I just submitted my essay and talked about my eyes and my dislike of wearing glasses. Wish me luck!

I have discovered another home crafter via blogging. This particular crafter creates candles. These aren’t just any old candle, these candles are made by hand soy candles and have some of the most divine scents and fragrances. She recently combined two of her scents, apple jack & peel with luscious cheesecake. That sounds fabulous to me! She also sells one of my favorite fragrances, cinnamon vanilla. That’s a fragrance I love to burn in my kitchen, it reminds me of snicker doodle cookies.
In celebration of the opening of her candle storefront, Rae is hosting a candle giveaway. To enter this contest, visit What Lies Within the Mirror and leave her a comment, purchase a candle and or write a post about her giveaway on your own blog. These candles would make great gifts too, stock up now!

I’m sitting here organizing all of my tax documentation and I noticed a line on our accountants annual tax questionnaire under miscellaneous itemized deductions: Hobby Expense. I had to stop and ask myself if perhaps I’m now allowed to deduct the cost of all the fabric I’m buying? This would be a huge help considering that buying fabric is something I am addicted to.
Speaking of addictions, I can think of 3 addictions that I currently have.
- Buying Fabric
- Blogging
- Entrecard (my newest addiction)
Feeding my new Entrecard addiction would be easier if I could win the Entrecard Credit Giveaway from Mummified Times Five. The contest ends on February 29, so I’m keeping my fingers crossed that I will win on of the 2 x 1000 Entrecard credit prizes!

I’ve always wanted one of these, a mini chopper! I personally think it would be so handy in the kitchen, particularly for chopping onions. It’s just not something I would buy for myself and for some reason, my husband has never purchased one for me either. So, I’m entering the contest at Melissa’s Place so that I can win one!
She has several ways to enter her contest, so head on over and check it out.
