Going In Circles

Going In Circles

Has anyone else noticed how popular circles have become in the sewing world. I am seeing circles in many quilt patterns. I don’t mean quilts made with polka dot fabric. These quilts are made with cirlces rather than square blocks. They are so pretty. I wonder if they are hard to make. Curves tend to umm, throw me a curve. LOL

I found the cutest circle pin cushions. They have flower petals in different colors sewn around each one. They are the cutest and most unique pin cushions.

I bought a new sewing table that fits my sewing machine. It actually has an attachment that will help me sew circles. I sure am glad. I have trouble sewing a straight line let alone attempting circles.

Temptation

I’ve mentioned before that I have a dream sewing machine in mind for myself. It will be a long time before I can afford this particular machine, and I will have to spend my money on a few other items before I can ever get this machine, but don’t you know, the retailers love to tempt me. With this machine, I’m easily tempted.

My sister emailed to let me know the dealer near her is offering the machine with incentives, including a trade in allowance of $3,000 just for bringing in ANY old machine! Are you kidding me!? I want that machine so badly, I’m tempted to go get it.

But I won’t, not yet…

Have Sewing Machine, Will Travel

Both of my sisters just returned to their respective homes after spending several days in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee at the MountainFest Quilt Festival. They had so much fun and learned a lot of new techniques that I can’t wait for them to share with me.

They’ve slowly been sending me pictures of their adventures and the one thing I’ve really noticed throughout the pictures is that they have their sewing machines with them. I see their machines in their rental cabin, I see them in their classes and in their lectures. Of course, this is normal, when you attend sewing or quilting classes, usually you bring your own materials, including your sewing machine. Of course, when they weren’t attending classes or lectures, they were out shopping for fabric and patterns at the hundreds of vendors that were also at the festival.  I don’t think they took the machines with them when they shopped!

I haven’t been anywhere outside of the local area since we moved here in April.  I really wanted to attend the festival with my sisters, but the timing wasn’t right for me, maybe next year.

My husband may be going on a flight to New York for business soon and I was thinking it would be fun to tag along. I don’t think I’d want to take my sewing machine on an airplane, security would be a nightmare, but even without my machine I could have fun. Can you imagine going to the textile mart in New York? I can only imagine the thousands of bolts of fabulous fabric to choose from. Just think of all the fabric bags I could create!

Of course, I think while I was there I might also have to go visit the Statue of Liberty. It’s something I’ve always wanted to see, but never quite made it. A trip to New York would be awesome, there are so many amazing things to do. I would definitely take an empty suitcase to bring back all of the fabric I will buy while I’m there.

Sewing Machines

Whenever I visit a quilt shop or fabric store, I find myself curious about what sewing machines other sewers and crafters prefer to use. My very first machine was a Singer. I received it as a high school graduation gift, many years ago. I have used it to create many wonderful things and a couple of years ago realized that I might want something newer. I wound up purchasing a Viking and I really enjoy it. It is a Platinum 955E and does Embroidery also. I’m not sure it’s the best for quilting, but since I don’t do much of that, it is fine. I love the embroidery feature and hope to use it more once I’ve taken a couple of classes.

So, what brand of machine do you use? Vote in this poll and leave me a comment to let me know more specifics about your machine and what you mainly use it for.
