Tackle It Tuesday – Ready to Sew

Tackle It Tuesday Meme

Over the weekend I finally was inspired to begin sewing again. It’s been several months and I just couldn’t seem to find the desire to sew. Saturday, for some reason, everything changed and I wound up spending the weekend creating a tote bag that I’m very proud of. More on that and photos to follow.Today though, I decided to tackle my loss of job blues by starting on some holiday sewing projects. First, I had to clean up my sewing table.

After cleaning up, I laid out my “12 Days of Christmas” project book and fabric and I’m ready to start cutting the pieces.

And, hopefully, I will end up with this as a final product.

Tackle It Tuesday

Tackle It Tuesday Meme
I am currently tackling my new job, in the office training 5 days a week, 5 hours a day. It doesn’t sound like much, but there is so much information that my mind is swimming and by the time I get home, I’m having trouble staying organized.

My tackle for this week is two fold. I plan to get one-on-one help with some of the computer screens for work by going in early for tutoring. I have all ready scheduled my first session for tomorrow morning. The second thing I need to do to help me stay on track at home is to get my calendar updated.

My calendar keeps me on track whether it’s bill paying, doctor appointments or getting my daughter to softball practice. It’s all on my calendar. Well, it should be. Lately, I’ve been so out of sync that my calendar is not getting updated. I feel pending doom because I know at some point, something is not going to get paid or one of us will miss an appointment.

So, when I get home this afternoon, I am going to sit down and work on my calendar.

Oh, wait. I have a doctor’s appointment. Oh, then my daughter has softball team pictures. Hmmmm, I guess I still need to cook dinner. Well, I will attempt to squeeze it in there somewhere!

Happy Tackling!

Tackle It Tuesday

My tackle is much less sophisticated than Jen’s who is the guest tackler this week at 5 Minutes For Mom this week. Please do go check out her incredible pie crust making with step by step instructions that make me feel that even I could make a pie crust from scratch! As for my tackle, I have a to do list that I really need to get done today, so here it is.

  1. Load sewing machine with cotton thread and wind a couple of spare bobbins.  Install a new sewing needle.
  2. Pack sewing machine and all necessary fabrics and supplies and load into car.
  3. Attend Beginning Piecing class #2.
  4. Email Band Director
  5. Call telephone company
  6. pay a few bills
  7. order checks

Now, I’m sure there are a few other items that should be on the list, but I seem to be having memory issues lately!  In case you didn’t see my fabrics in my earlier post, these are the fabrics I’m working with to make my quilt.  Last week, we spent the class cutting all the pieces, so we will begin sewing today.

Tackle It Tuesday

Tackle It Tuesday Meme
My tackle this week is health related. I actually started this tackle a couple of weeks ago by going in for a long over due “well woman” check up. So, this tackle is sort of to update on all the tests I’ve had done and what’s going on, sorry, no pictures!

First, the well woman check found everything to be okay, as it should be. The blood test, however, came back with high total cholesterol and high LDL (bad) cholesterol levels. So, by biggest tackle over the last two weeks has been to cut as much fat and carbs out of my diet as possible. This sounds easy, but when you really get to looking in your pantry at all your food and realize how much of it is processed foods, it’s a bigger change than you think. We eat a lot of pasta and rice in our house and most of it is white rice and white pasta. So, I’ve been switching over to whole wheat pastas and organic brown rices. I’ve also added a lot of fruit to my diet. While I am getting another blood test in a couple of weeks to see if the dietary changes are helping, I am making every attempt to make these changes life long and not just for the short term.

I also had a mammogram done and the test results came back and everything is okay. In addition, I had a bone density test done. Typically this test is done for women over 50, but, osteoporosis runs in my family, so I asked to have it done. This test showed a severe loss of bone for someone my age, so I am now taking calcium supplements 2 times a day and will be picking up a prescription tomorrow that I will take once a week.

The final think I had done was to have a small mole removed from my nose. This was done today and I’m sitting here questioning my decision to have it done. It was very painful when I received the shot in my nose to have the area numbed. I now have stitches on the side of my nose and a lovely bandaid. I’ll be heading to the drug store tomorrow to pick up some of those clear bandages!

So, the only thing left is to get stitches removed in a few days and have another blood test in a few weeks. I am officially tired of being poked and prodded!

Productive Morning

Tackle It Tuesday Meme
I feel like I got a lot done this morning and I’m happy about that.

I completed my blood test this morning at the diagnostic center, so now they can check my cholesterol and all that other good stuff.  I also called this morning and scheduled my appointments for my mammogram and bone density test for this Friday.

After my blood test, I ran some errands, including getting the car’s annual inspection done.  That turned out to be a bit of a challenge as I discovered that I didn’t have the proof of insurance card with me.  I then had to phone my husband and have him look up the number to our insurance agent.  I then called the agent’s office and had the proof of insurance faxed to the inspection station, and, eventually, my inspection was completed.  Geeez!  Nothing is ever as easy as it should be!

So, what are you tackling today?
